Newmarket Allotment Association

Code of Conduct

Newmarket Allotment Association believes that all allotment holders, across all three sites, have a right to work their plots in an environment that is safe, inclusive and where all of us feel respected, valued and share a sense of belonging.

This Code of Conduct defines how we all should act on a day-to-day basis while on the allotment sites.  It reflects daily activities and operations, our core values and the overall culture of the Association.

All members of Newmarket Allotment Association and their visitors are expected to observe the following rules and behaviour:

·       Work towards the good of both the Association and the allotment sites in general, respecting and complying with the Association’s Tenancy Agreement, including the Respect Policy and Code of Conduct.

·       Have due regard for the security and wellbeing of others and the plots on the allotment sites. This includes showing respect for other people’s plots and possessions, closing gates behind you, and using marked paths.

·       Conduct activities and communications without discrimination on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, marital status, nationality, race, ethnic origin, religion, age or disability or the length of time someone has been a member.

·       Avoid all abusive and inflammatory language, whether in person, by email, or by any other forms of communication, including social media, to any other member or members of the Committee.

·       Do not behave in a manner intended to intimidate, harass or bully another allotment holder, Committee member or visitors on the sites.

·       No harassment or bullying of any kind, in person or via other forms of communication, will be tolerated.

·       Treat others with the respect that you would wish them to show you.

If a member should know of, or become aware of, any breach of this Code of Conduct or the Respect Policy, by any other member or visitor, they are to notify the Committee Secretary / Chair as soon as possible.

Any breach of the Code of Conduct brought to the attention of the Committee will be investigated.  If found to have foundation, the Committee has the authority to terminate or suspend membership. Whilst this Code of Conduct refers to Newmarket Allotment Association members, any breaches of it by non-members of the Association will also be referred to the Committee.
